In practice

Different systems. The same continuous care model.

Evira has been in clinical use since 2018 and is now used in 48 treatment centers across six countries, including 16 clinics in the United Kingdom and six Swedish regions.

United Kingdom · NHS England

Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust

Evira was introduced into the West Midlands Complications of Excess Weight (CEW) pathway in 2024 as part of the NHS England CEW programme. Children and families measure regularly at home and see progress as a trend against an individualised treatment target, while the CEW team follows the same trajectory remotely and communicates securely between appointments.

  • Particularly useful for families travelling long distances to the hospital
  • Supports motivational interviewing during a journey that is rarely linear
  • Published service evaluation presented at BSPED 2025

The team highlights three implementation lessons: clear inclusion criteria, making digital support part of the pathway rather than a standalone intervention, and allocating clinical time to review progress and respond to messages.

Sweden

Regional healthcare and specialist pediatric services

Evira is used as part of established pediatric obesity pathways across six Swedish regions and in specialist and private providers, supporting combined lifestyle treatment between appointments that typically occur every three to six months.

  • Used within regional pediatric obesity programmes
  • Follow-up recorded alongside the national BORIS quality register
  • Basis for the published one- and three-year outcome studies

Swedish services show how continuous follow-up can be organised across a caseload within existing staffing, rather than adding appointments.

Norway

Specialist care in a differently organised system

Clinical use in Norway demonstrates how the same care model adapts to another healthcare system, with different organisation of specialist care, referral routes and follow-up responsibility.

  • Local clinical responsibility retained by the service
  • Configuration adapted to local follow-up structure
  • Evidence that the model is not tied to one national system

Adaptability matters more than a standard configuration: the model works when it maps onto how the service already operates.

European clinical research

Academic and clinical collaborations

Evira works with academic and clinical partners, including Karolinska Institutet, on peer-reviewed studies and service evaluations conducted in real care settings rather than controlled pilot environments.

  • Peer-reviewed publications on one- and three-year outcomes
  • Service evaluations published by clinical teams
  • Ongoing collaboration on pathway and population questions

Research collaboration keeps the model tested against the outcomes health systems actually care about.

What these examples show

Implementation is a clinical exercise, not a software rollout

Across markets, the services that succeed treat Evira as part of the treatment they already deliver: their patients, their criteria, their team, their responsibility.

Across every setting

Their patients. Their criteria. Their care team. Their clinical responsibility.
